So I cut my hair. Like really cut it. I’ve not had it this short for over 10 years, so this is exciting!
It was a shock for me, for my hairdresser, for my mum and for everyone around, because I’ve always had long hair and never really talked about cutting it after the Rihanna fiasco in 2008. But now I am really happy with how it turned out and it was so fun seeing everyone’s reaction. I still find it strange how it takes a lot less time to brush it hehe!
I love my new look but I’m still trying to figure out how to style it without using too much heat. One of the reasons I decided to cut so much off was that literally half of my hair was super damaged, and no matter what I tried using, it just got worse and worse. Some products would make it look nice for a little while, but a day later, it would be back to looking sad and damaged, so now I’m trying to keep it healthy.
After having balayage done in the winter of 2017, the ends of my hair got dry and sad too quick for my liking and my budget. I’d been colouring it myself for a couple of years before that too, so I had damaged it quite a lot, especially when you add heat styling to the mix. Something had to change.
And so, when I was home for Christmas, I was considering if I should really go for it and cut it short. I wasn’t 100% sure, but I made a screenshot of a picture of Kourtney Kardashian, in case I felt adventurous in the chair.
I asked my hairdresser what her thoughts were and she was a bit taken aback since she knows how much I love my hair, but we decided she’d gradually make it shorter until I was happy.
After all the sad, damaged hair was gone, my hair reached the top of my chest, so I thought I might as well get it done. And so now I’m the proud owner of a lob. A long bob, that is, for anyone wondering.
Some pretty cool women out there are rocking this sassy but classy hairstyle, so I thought I’d try it for a bit too. I created a little lob moodboard (and pinned a lot of pins!) while I was looking for ways to style it, which you can see below. I mean, how gorgeous is Selena?!
I’d been toying with the idea of cutting my hair for a while, but I always thought I’d enjoy it for a month and then want my long strands back. The last time I drastically changed my hairstyle was about 10 years ago, and I can tell you I did not look like Rihanna in the Umbrella video, which was the goal.
This time over, I didn’t go as short, and my hairdresser is a lot better than that lady back in 2008, so I’m happier with the results.
Almost two months in, I’m still not regretting my decision, but if I start a GoFundMe page in order to buy some extensions, please donate!
Until then, I’ll be rocking my new sassy haircut and accepting styling tips!
