I was supposed to write this post about two months ago, but here we are in mid-September, and I’m only just getting on with it. Life got in the way, but now it’s time to talk recent favourites: part two of 2018. How have nine months passed already is shocking, don’t you think?
A few months ago, my skin went a little crazy, and very picky. I’ve never had sensitive skin, so I was completely open to trying all the new products I could find, but after trying a random cream from an unknown brand and breaking out, I realised it’s time to be more careful. I found the Avene A-Oxitive Water Cream in my stash, which is made for super sensitive skin, and I had been wanting to try it for a while anyway, so this was the perfect time. It was everything I needed at the time (and still need, to be honest. It’s on my want list!) – soothing, because of the thermal water in it, which you know I am obsessed with; moisturising which is always a must for me; and it protects the skin from pollution, which is important, especially when you live in a big city. It definitely helped my skin calm down and feel better, so it’s one I recommend. Another thing I love about the cream is that it comes in a pump bottle, which is always better than having to stick your fingers in a pot. It isn’t just me, that prefers that, right?
I know, I know, I have been on a no-makeup diet recently, but that’s only in my day-to-day life. I still love playing with makeup and trying out new looks. Especially on special occasions or on holiday. This summer, I played a lot with the Huda Beauty Mauve Obsessions palette. I’ve shown you a date-night look I created with it, but now I tried some other looks, and it was my go-to palette all summer long. What I love about it is that despite there being only nine shades, it’s very versatile, super pigmented and the colour lasts the whole day/night. Another thing I love about it is the large mirror it comes with, it’s so practical, especially when you have one source of light in your room, which isn’t near the mirror!
And another makeup product I’ve been obsessed with and telling anyone who’d listen to buy it is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. Its fine tip and perfect colour have made my life easier and brows happier. No, seriously, it’s true. I did enjoy using the Tanya Burr eyebrow pencil, but I find it so much easier to be precise with one with a skinny nib. I go for a natural look but still manage to cover all the gaps and create a nice shape with this little friend.
If you know me, you know I like sweet scents and sweets in general. Most of the perfumes I own are sweet and fruity, but this one was a surprise for me. My friend gave me the Zara Sweet Vanilla fragrance for Christmas it pleasantly surprised me. I had never used a Zara fragrance before, and while it doesn’t last until the next morning like some high-end perfumes, it does last a good while and makes me smell dreamy. Kinda like a cake, which is a good thing. Scents tend to remind us of things that happened when we wore them, so this is my summer 2018 memory stick! How lovely!
I’ve been giving my body some extra love, which I will get into soon, but for now, I wanted to give a shout out to the best smelling body butter I’ve tried. Let’s talk about the brand real quick – Nacomi is a natural, vegan-friendly brand, produced in Poland. Their products are paraben-free, eco-friendly and affordable. The product I am in love with is the Nacomi Body Mousse*, which contains shea butter, grape seed oil and a bit of cocoa extract and argan oil, which are all super moisturising and make my skin extra smooth. But my favourite part of the whole thing is that it smells like freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. I may or may not have tried to have a bite of my arm…
I love love love reading, but while I was studying, I didn’t allow myself to read too much fiction, just because I tend to get obsessed with any good book I get my hands on and forget to do anything else. This summer’s obsession was Mad by Chloe Esposito. You can ask my best friend about what she did while I was reading on our holiday because I honestly do not know.
I won’t spoil the plot of the book, I will just say it is gripping, sometimes inappropriate to read in public and just worth a read. And the best part is, there are two more following the characters and their story, and it definitely leaves you asking for more. Which is exactly what you want from a book, amirite?
While Simon and I didn’t travel as much this year, we did manage a few day trips in the UK, as well as a long weekend in Bournemouth. Favourite holiday of the last few months, however, is my trip to the Bulgarian seaside with my best friend. Long distance friendships are hard, and our annual holiday makes it a little bit easier to stay connected and share some fun memories. As usual, we went to Sveti Vlas, which is a small resort just north of Burgas, and spent a week baking in the sunshine and drinking all the wine. How can this not be my favourite holiday? We have zero appropriate pictures of us together, and I am not sure how I feel about that, but here’s one of the beach!
And this is it for me today! Let me know what you’ve been loving lately!
