Father’s Day is around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, you have probably left gift buying for the last minute. Be honest, are you ready to give your dad a nice present on Sunday? If not, you are not the only one. But do you also find it very hard to give gifts to men? I know I do. And there are at least three occasions a year when it’s nice to give your father a little something, so here are five gifts you can get him that are more fun than a cheesy mug or a boring tie!
P.S. This gift guide also works as a general guide for whenever it’s time to give a man in your life something nice.
For the dad who likes to stay at home
Is your dad a slipper guy? Mine is. But I swear he’s had the same old pair of slippers for ages and they do not look so well anymore. And so, I figured it’s a great idea to give him a nice quality pair of cosy slippers. Because who wants to walk around the house in old, (smelly?), boring slippers? Well, he might, but not on my watch. I’ve picked these beauts* from Lazy Dogz because they are 1. gorgeous 2. super soft (I’ve tried them on and OH MY GOD they are soft!) 3. they look very fancy. I promise you, good quality slippers that will go a long way and keep your dad’s feet comfy and stylish at home are 100 times worth it!
For each pair of Lazy Dogz purchased for your dad/the man in your life/yourself, the brand will donate £1 to the Manchester Dogs Home. Also, they’re offering 20% off all their styles using the ’FATHERS20’ code. I know I’m giving a pair to my stepdad.
For the skincare novice dad
I don’t know why a lot of men are scared of using good skincare. Like, I don’t think my dad has used a moisturiser in his life (if we don’t count his aftershave balm). And as I’ve made Simon a skincare fan, maybe I should give myself a little mission and transform my dad as well. Who’s with me? Why not get your dad some skincare? Don’t go overboard with a crazy routine, start by simply introducing a couple of easy steps, and you might just start sharing skin care tips with your dad. Or at least his skin will feel much better.
Simon said he liked the Clinique products I gave him for Christmas, so I’ve got two suggestions for you. Get the three-piece Clinique For Men Daily Intense Hydrator Skincare Kit or opt for this cute Malin + Goetz Travel Ready essential kit – I feel like it’s better for the man himself to decide what works after trying some minis! Plus, if your dad is a gym-goer, he’ll appreciate the mini shower gel that comes in the kit.
For the gentleman dad
Who doesn’t like a good fragrance? Whether it’s your dad, boyfriend, brother… I, for one, know my dad likes showing off his perfume, and melts when I compliment it. And who doesn’t love to hear they smell nice? I think the Michael Buble new fragrance Pour Homme* is a great gift for a dad, especially one who’s a people person like mine. The new fragrance is the first men’s one by Mr Buble and is created for the modern man, who is a performer with a personal style. The top notes of grapefruit and bergamot mixed with pink pepper and ginger, a heart of neroli and a base of sandalwood, patchouli and musk blend together to bring a woody aromatic fragrance, that to me smells like dad. It has a cosy, comforting but manly smell, which is what all dads should smell like.
If you order a 120ml bottle of the fragrance by the 17th June at www.michaelbubleperfume.com, you’ll receive a purse spray of Michael’s original fragrance, By Invitation so you can treat your mum to a little something too! To guarantee delivery in time for Father’s Day (17th June), place your order by 3:30pm on 14th June.
For the tea-loving dad
100 billion single-use coffee cups and millions of plastic bags end up in landfill every year around the world, and research has shown that the amount of plastic cups found on British beaches has doubled in the last ten years. But it’s not only the cups that are bad – tea bags surprisingly contain plastic, especially the little triangle ones, so using tea leaves and an infuser helps reduce the plastic waste.
WakeCup is a brand that provides a sustainable alternative to single-use cups & tea bags, and have teamed up with the Marine Conservation Society to urge kids to help their dads to change their habits this Father’s Day. And we are all kids to our parents, so we go into that category. Also, a percentage of each sale goes to the Marine Conservation Society – you’re not only going to make your dad smile but will also be doing a good deed!
The WakeCup Tea Infuser* is made from toughened glass, so it will keep the tea hot and has a bamboo lid. To make your gift even more special, pop over to Selfridges over the weekend to personalise any of the of the WAKEcup products.
For the super dad
My last idea for a Father’s Day gift is the simplest one – spend some quality time with just your old man. Send your mum off on a girl’s night, or invite your dad over, cook him dinner, spoil him with his favourite wine. Talk, share, laugh, just you and him… because the memories we make with our loved ones are the best present we can give them, and ourselves.
These are my four gift ideas for your dad, and they all keep giving – to your dad, or the environment. Don’t forget to get him a funny card too, because cards are the best!
Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads out there!
