My ‘I made an effort’ everyday look

Let’s start with this: I am not one to make an effort and wear a full face every day. I remember when I was still in school I really wanted to because most of my friends did. My mum tried to tell me I didn’t need foundation or any other makeup, but at the time I was determined to be like my pals. The truth is this phase lasted not more than a month – I really preferred to get 10 extra minutes in bed, instead of spending them crafting a face. This hasn’t changed one bit!

I am lucky to have skin that usually allows me to go makeup free – I only get slight breakouts at that time of the month or if I’m stressing out about something. Thanks to my dad I have a natural tan, which saves me from a) fake tanning and b) needing makeup to look alive. So if you see me on a normal day when I’ve had to run out the door whilst eating my toast, I’ll probably be wearing some eyebrow product and lip balm on at best.

Of course, this is not an everyday occurrence. I have bad days, when I didn’t get enough sleep or stupidly tried to pop a pimple (gross, I know) and ended up with a giant red mark on my face. On days like this I try not to leave the house or if I really have to, I cover whatever I can and hope I don’t run into important people.

Everyday makeup look

My ‘I made an effort’ look is for good days. These are ones I am feeling less lazy than usual and want to well, make an effort. I still don’t go too overboard and go for a subtle look, but what I most love about it is that it’s versatile and really goes with everything. So if I have an important day I don’t have to waste time wondering what to put on my face. This is my go-to polished look 🙂

One of my most treasured possessions is the original UD Naked palette. I’ve loved it for years now and we’re still going strong. I use eight of the 12 shades regularly, skipping the darkest ones because I’m not one for dramatic eyes in the day.

Base

I start with a simple base by Smashbox – my  Photo Finish Primerizer goes all over my face and the Photo Finish Lid Primer on my lids. I’ve mentioned it before and it’s because I like the white version so much – it not only makes the eyeshadow stay all day, but it also makes the colours pop a bit more. Next, I use my beloved YSL Touche Eclat to conceal little imperfections and I’m ready to move on to the fun stuff.

Eyes

Using one palette for my whole eye look is my favourite! So for my everyday look, I grab my original Naked palette by Urban Decay. I use the Naked shade from the palette as my transition colour and apply it all over the lid and above the crease with a blending brush. With a smaller fluffy brush, I blend a bit of Buck in my crease just to add some definition. Then, depending on what colour scheme I’m going for, I pick between Sin, Sidecar & Half Baked for my lids. This time I picked Sin and applied it on the lid with a flat shader brush. Then I go back to Naked and a fluffy brush and blend any hard edges. Last, with a tiny angled brush, I pick up a bit of Virgin and apply it to the inner corners of my eyes.

If I’m feeling extra fancy I will add some of my favourite eyeliner – the Soap & Glory SuperCat but I honestly don’t have time or nerves for this very often.

I’ve been loving the Clinique High Impact lash elevating mascara, because it doesn’t make my lashes clumpy or too dramatic, but adds just what you need for a finished eye look.

Brows

As I’m going for a subtle-ish day look, I’d fill in my brows with the Tanya Burr Selfie Sculpt eyebrow pencil. I’d go in with light strokes, as I don’t want to darken my brows, but only to fill in the gaps. To hold them in place I go to the Glossier Boy Brow of course. It’s SO great!

Lips

As much as I love lipstick, I tend to only go for a lip balm on a daily basis, especially in winter. My lips tend to get super dry, so I prefer to be able to give them the help they need at any point of the day. I’ve been using the Glossier Balm Dotcom in Birthday for a couple of months now and I can tell you it is the best lip saving product out there. Plus it smells like cake. Enough said.

Finishing touches

I reach for my LR bronzing pearls if I want a subtle glow. I’d add a bit to my cheeks and pretend it’s my summer tan. Or I’ll just go for my favourite highlighter palette by Sleek. Last, but not least, is my Chloé by Chloé perfume. I know, everyone is using it these days, but it is for a reason! It smells like heaven, which is what you want people to say for you, isn’t it?!

And that’s it. It sure takes a lot less time to create this look than it does to write it up, which is a sign for a very quick look that will glam you up just enough to slay the day!

What is your favourite scent? I am completely in love with the Chloé one but have also been enjoying Glossier You recently.

Wow. I really admire women who can put on make up effortlessly and look glamorous in the least amount of time. I don’t wear make up often because I never learned how to properly do it. Haha.

I love how much effort you put up to look lovely. I love the lip balm tip you have given, my girlfriend uses the same as it is easier and heard it has lesser chemicals. LOve the post and how you mention about each product.

You are so lucky to have gotten such great skin! I am not a fan of base/foundation and the way it feels, so people just have to deal with me doing my eyes and brows – ha! I’m with you on the lip gloss, great for chapped winter lips!

Thank you for all the effort you put to put this post together. I’m not an expert on makeup, most days I go without any, I like the natural look of the skin, so I’m really happy I came across this article so I can learn from all those awesome tips.
