I am a lazy kind of gal when it comes to a lot of things, but taking care of my facial skin is NOT one of them. I can say I have a (slight) obsession with skincare products, but who can blame me? With tons to choose from and promises of beautiful hydrated & glowing skin, I just can’t resist.
When I was growing up, I used to hang out with my mum in the evening, before bed. We’d brush our teeth and then she would open the magic bathroom cabinet and apply magic potions to her face. She’d always tell me it’s important to moisturise my skin and show me how to do it properly.
At 23, I am a full-blown beauty addict and product hoarder. I just love trying out new stuff and seeing what works and what doesn’t. But as I said, I am a lazy person and prefer a quick and easy morning routine in exchange for five extra minutes in bed…
Now without further ado, here’s how I keep my skin happy in the winter months.
Step 1 – Cleanse
I like to give my face a good wash in the morning to get rid of any dirt, hair product leftovers or oils that have found their way to my skin while I’ve been sleeping. I know it’s controversial and a lot of people say it’s better to skip this step, but my skin does feel good after a morning wash, and I would recommend just trying out what works for you. I prefer using a light product, different to my evening one since I have no makeup to remove and all I want is a fresh start of the day. I’m currently loving the Garnier Micellar Gel Face Wash. While I don’t have very sensitive skin, I do like using gentler products, and this one really does a great job in the morning and wakes me up a bit!
Step 2 – Prep
Next, I prep my face for moisturising. If my skin is irritated, I have a spot or I have had my eyebrows threaded recently, the Avene Thermal Water is my best friend. It soothes my skin straight away. I also like use it when everything is ok and I have no skin concerns, just because I love it. It is a nice refreshing part of my routine, and I need every bit of help waking up in the morning. I spray my face and pat it dry with a cotton pad.
Step 3 – Moisturise
To moisturise, I use a combination of two products. I mix them together and gently apply on my face. Now, I am not the biggest fan of creams in pots. Yes, they are gorgeous and might do miracles, but I have long nails and sometimes struggle taking the product out of said pod.
So when it was time to get a new product, I went looking for one that comes with a pump or in a tub. I had read good stuff about the L’Oreal Hydra Genius and decided to give it a go and now I LOVE it and recommend to anyone! It’s got a strange watery consistency, but I got used to it quickly. It’s light and fresh and has the most hyped-up ingredient of the year -Hyaluronic Acid, which locks in the much-needed moisture and doesn’t let it escape your skin.
I mix it with my Omorovicza Oxygen Booster, which is again a water gel, but especially in the winter, I need all the help with keeping my skin moisturised, plump and radiant, and this little guy is a good addition to my routine.
I usually get one pump of my Hydra Genius on my fingertips, add a pump of the Oxygen Booster, mix them together and apply to my face and neck in a circular motion and make sure it is all absorbed.
These steps really make a difference, and by the time I am done with all of them my face looks fresh and radiant, which is what you want!
Step 4 – Lips
In winter I get the dryest lips ever, so I have developed a special relationship with lip balms. As a part of my morning routine, I use a simple Nivea Essential Care one, but it really helps soften my lips survive the cold.
And voila, I am now ready to start my day! What’s your morning routine?
